Wednesday 11th March
Colossians 2:6-15
‘So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.’
- What stands out to you from this passage?
- What are you grateful for?
- Thank God for what he has won for you.
1) For the strengthening of our faith as a church
• For the nine people baptised on Sunday – that the Lord would protect them and strengthen their faith.
• For those who attended as visitors on Sunday, that the Lord would continue to reveal himself to them.
• For those attending Alpha and Chapter One – and for the teams leading them. That we would see salvation as a result.
• That our faith would be strengthened whenever we gather together.
• For all our small groups to be places where people get ‘rooted and built up’ in Jesus.
2) For Sunday morning
• For Katie and the band leading worship.
• For Nicola and Ade leading the meeting.
• Seyi is speaking – continuing the Sermon on the Mount series.
• That the Lord would encounter each person present in a personal way.
• For all our Sunday serving teams – that they would know God’s blessing as they serve him.
3) For our staff team
• For all our new staff members – Brenda, Ayo, Modupe, Rob and Sefi.
• For the staff team to be ‘rooted and built up in Jesus, strengthened in the faith, and overflowing with thankfulness’.
• For God’s protection over the team – over their health, their spiritual lives and their families.
• For John and his family.
• For the team of trustees as they provide advice and support for the staff team.
4) For God’s protection over the church
‘See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.’ Col 2:8
Pray that we would be a church that stands firm in our faith, not taken in by the enemy’s lies, but having our eyes fully fixed on Jesus, serving and glorifying him.
