Reflection

Psalm 63

1 You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.

2 I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. 3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. 4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. 5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. 7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. 8 I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.

9 Those who want to kill me will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. 10 They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals.

11 But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.

What imagery in this Psalm is capturing your imagination today? Allow space for the Lord to show you what he wants to say to you through these images.

1) For the coming term

Pray:

· For our ‘Living Water’ series – that we would encounter the Holy Spirit in fresh ways whenever we gather.

· For all our ministry teams – that the Lord would place every part of the church body where it needs to be, especially as we continue planning for the third meeting in the New Year.

· For all our small groups – that these would be places where people grow in faith, discipleship and fellowship.

· Alpha – pray for the team, for great Spirit-led conversations… and for salvation!

· That we would continue to seek God earnestly in everything we do.

2) Sunday morning

Pray for:

· Steve and the band leading worship

· Rich Horne leading the meeting

· Seyi is speaking – finishing up our summer series in Colossians.

· That the Lord would encounter each person in a personal way.

· For all our Sunday serving teams – that they’d experience God’s goodness as they serve.

· For God’s protection over us as we meet.

3) Our leaders

Choose one or two groups of leaders to pray for:

· staff team

· trustees

· elders

· preaching team

· small group leaders

· Sunday serving team teams

· youth & children’s team leaders

· outreach ministry leaders

Then pray for:

· wisdom, strength and encouragement for these leaders

· increased anointing and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit

· the Lord’s protection over their wellbeing and their families.

4) Our church family

Pray for situations in our church family that need God’s breakthrough. Take a moment to imagine what holy breakthrough could look like in those situations.

And then pray some big prayers!
