Who are they for?

What's On Images

Dedications are for children, normally those under three, whose parents are part of the life of King’s Church High Wycombe. For instance, those who are members of a small group, those who serve in the church, those who are members of the King’s Church and those who are intending to become members. For those who are brand new to the King’s Church, we normally recommend that children are dedicated once parents have had a chance to get to know others in the church through, for instance, being part of a small group or one of our serving teams.

What happens?

Dedications are an opportunity to give thanks to God for the gift of our children. Dedications take place during the main Sunday morning meetings. During the dedication part of the meeting, we give opportunity to express our gratitude to God for our children, to pray for God’s blessing on our children and also to pray for the parents and wider family. Furthermore, we make space for the members of the church to stand alongside the families whose children are being dedicated to demonstrate their desire to provide practical and spiritual support for those being dedicated and their families.

How long does it last?

We would normally expect the dedications to last 10-15 minutes, although this will depend on the numbers of children being dedicated.

What about christening or water baptism?

We believe strongly in the New Testament principle of water baptism for those who have already made a commitment to follow Jesus as Lord and Saviour. We also believe that each individual should make that decision for themselves personally and therefore we do not practise christening or water baptism for young children. If you would like to know more, we run a course for those who would like to explore baptism separately.

When will they take place?

We expect to plan two dedication meetings per year.  Look at our What’s On page for the next date.
