Wednesday 24 December

Read from John 1:
The Word Became Flesh

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

  • What are the areas of darkness for you at the moment that you need the light of Jesus to shine in? Could be a small decision you need to make, or a huge request you are asking for… say it out loud now.
  • Who are you currently praying for who hasn’t yet received Jesus, or who isn’t seeing Him as their light at the moment? Cry out for them now…
  • Ask the Lord to reveal His Glory and His Grace afresh to you today and throughout these Christmas weeks…

Thank God:

  • For being our refuge, strength, ever-present help.
  • For His peace, dwelling presence, sovereignty and faithful protection.

Lift up all the carol services and outreach efforts that have taken place across Wycombe over the last couple of weeks and until Christmas Day.

  • For all those who have heard the Gospel for the first time this month,
  • For anyone thinking about Jesus for the first time in a long time, perhaps seeds planted when they were young being watered and starting to sprout,
  • That thoughts jostled this month would turn into opening the Bible and coming to church to find out more next month.

Pray for Watch Night:

  • Pray for Seyi, Abigail, Ayo, Adam, Odilia, Elizabeth and the others who will be continuing to plan and prepare for this over the next week.
  • Pray that many who don’t regularly come to church would attend and would be stirred to come back to church and seek God afresh.
  • Thank God for this opportunity to come together as a church family, to give thanks for all He has done in 2025 and lift up to him 2026.

Pray for those who are less fortunate than us this season:

Women caught in exploitation (CHOSEN) –

  • Thank God:
    • That they’ve seen a woman miraculously walk free from addiction, sexual commercial exploitation and homelessness this year, and that she has fallen in love with Jesus and his Church=
    • For great favour with statutory authorities such as the Police and Probation – and for the generosity of donors and businesses as they’ve reconfigured the West End Hall for Daytime Drop-Ins
  • Ask:
    • For Chosen’s new Wednesday lunchtime Drop-In starting in January – that women would come and encounter the power, love, freedom and deliverance of the Holy Spirit so that they can walk free from homelessness, violence, coercion, addiction and ruinous lifestyles
    • That Chosen would have godly wisdom and inspiration in all they do – and for protection over the frontline teams
    • For more women to exit commercial sexual exploitation and find love and acceptance in the Church.

Those without a home (KING’S TABLE & BRIDGE COURT) –

  • Thank God:
    • For the good number of guests who attended King’s Table Christmas Meal (each received, ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ by Bear Grylls), and for good, growing relationships with Bridge Court staff and residents
    • For our teams who serve in these two areas – for their love, compassion and faithfulnes
  • Ask:
    • That those without a home would experience the peace and presence of Jesus, hear personally from God and respond to Him this Christmas
    • For a building-up of the King’s Table team, both numerically and spiritually
    • That we’d see those with addictions break free through Christ, and permanent housing situations for those homeless and in temporary accommodation.

Those who are ill, mourning or lonely –

  • Thank God:
    • For situations this year where families and individuals have experienced the love and support of the church, as well as the peace and presence of the Lord, as they’ve gone through difficult times
    • That God has been at work this year, through healing and restoring relationships – even when we’re unaware of it, knowing that the Lord is always at work
  • Ask:
    • That those who are ill, mourning or isolated would know the peace and presence of their Heavenly Father during this season.
    • That there would be a supernatural ceasing of pain and ill health… physical, emotional and mental.
    • For further healings, protections and relationships restored to take place over this season.

Pray for Suzanne, John and family:

  • Thank God:
    • For all that the Lord has done in and through both John and Suzanne, up to this moment, including the encouragement they are continuing to be for us all about keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus despite our circumstances.
    • That the family has been looking to and relying on the Lord to sustain them.
  • Ask:
    • For full healing for Suzanne.
    • That the whole family would continue to know the peace and presence of their Heavenly Father at this time and in the moments to come.

Make a Joyful noise!
Spontaneous prayer of thanksgiving… see if you can keep going for 2 minutes.
